Foundations & Slab Work

Structural Foundations & Concrete Slab Work

Every great build relies on a rock-solid foundation. Whether you are pouring the base for a custom home, a detached garage, a commercial warehouse, or a backyard workshop, the structural integrity of your entire project hinges on the precision and strength of your initial concrete pour.

At Solid Base Construction, we provide engineered foundation and slab-on-grade solutions across Georgia that meet and exceed local building codes. With over 10 years of specialized experience, our team ensures your foundation is perfectly level, structurally reinforced, and built to support your structure for generations to come.

Why Work with a Specialized Structural Contractor?

Foundation work leaves no room for error. A minor calculation mistake can lead to catastrophic structural issues, unlevel walls, and water intrusion down the line.

  • Code Compliance & Permitting: We understand Georgia's specific building codes and frost line requirements, ensuring your foundation easily passes inspections.
  • Clay Soil Expertise: Georgia’s red clay expands and contracts aggressively with moisture changes. We engineer our slabs and footings specifically to resist this movement.
  • Laser-Level Precision: We utilize advanced laser leveling and leveling instrumentation to ensure your slab is completely flat, saving your framing or building crew immense time and headache.
  • Heavy Load Capacity: From heavy machinery to multi-story framing, we design our concrete mixes and steel layouts to support your specific weight requirements.

Our Foundation & Slab Services

We handle everything from minor residential additions to major structural pours:

1. Monolithic Slabs

An efficient and incredibly strong choice for garages, sheds, and single-story homes. The slab and the deep perimeter footings are poured at the same time as a single, continuous piece of concrete.

2. Stem Wall & Pier Foundations

Ideal for sloped Georgia lots or homes requiring a crawlspace. We pour deep concrete footings, build the structural concrete walls or piers, and then pour the floor system over top to elevate the structure safely above grade.

3. Home Additions & Extensions

Expanding your living space? We specialize in tying new foundation slabs seamlessly into your existing home's foundation using heavy-duty steel dowels, ensuring zero shifting between the old and new structures.

Our Structural Foundation Process

We treat foundation work with the strict technical precision it demands. Here is our step-by-step process for a flawless structural build:

Step 1: Precision Excavation & Trenching

  • What we do: We clear the site, calculate precise elevations, and excavate the footprint, digging deep trenches for load-bearing footings that reach below the local frost line.
  • Why it matters: Footings must sit on undisturbed, load-bearing soil to prevent the building from sinking or tilting under its own weight.

Step 2: Formwork, Utilities, & Soil Treatment

  • What we do: We build rigid, heavily braced wooden or modular formwork to hold the concrete. At this stage, we coordinate with plumbers and electricians to sleeve utilities, treat the soil for termites, and lay down a heavy vapor barrier.
  • Why it matters: The vapor barrier prevents ground moisture from rising through the concrete, protecting your future flooring from mold, warping, and dampness.

Step 3: Engineered Steel Reinforcement

  • What we do: We build a heavy-duty skeleton inside the forms using structural steel rebar grids and wire mesh, entirely suspended on concrete "chairs" so it sits perfectly in the middle of the pour.
  • Why it matters: Concrete is incredibly strong under compression but needs steel to handle tension. The rebar prevents the foundation from snapping or separating under structural stress.

Step 4: The Pour, Laser Leveling, & Curing

  • What we do: We pour premium, high-$\text{PSI}$ structural concrete mixes, using commercial-grade vibrators to eliminate air pockets. We then use laser levels to screed, float, and trowel the surface to a perfectly smooth finish.
  • Why it matters: Eliminating air voids ensures maximum structural density, while our precise leveling creates a perfect, headache-free canvas for your framing or construction crew.
